The Ayers-Allen House is a historic home that was built in 1740, located in Metuchen, New Jersey. It also goes by the name Allen House Tavern. It is said that it once served as “a tavern where British and Americans met to find common ground over a yard of ale,” according to Metuchen Matters. It sits yards away from where the British and American Revolutionary skirmish fought.
Some also believe the property was a stop on the Underground Railroad in the 1800’s. The home has two trap doors and a hidden room in the house.
Many believe the property is haunted. Some say the ghost of a Continental Army soldier exists here. Several ghosts have been seen on the premises, including a mother searching for her son who was killed by British soldiers, American Revolutionary soldiers, and even Hessian mercenaries. Some have even seen two Native American spirits who were unjustly hanged from a tree in the house’s yard.
Since 1985 the house has been listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register of Historic Places. It’s also been dubbed one of the most haunted places in Central Jersey by CenteralJersey.com.

I have never been to this home, but after watching the Holzer Files, I did a bit of research, as I have Ayers ancestors. Turns out, John Ayers who built the home is my 2nd cousin 10x removed, his great grandparents, John Ayers and Hannah Webb are my 11th great grandparents. Their daughter, Mary Ayers (my 10x great grandma) was hung in Salem, Massachusetts for witchcraft based on false accusations. One day I hope to travel to these places and this house, for many geological reasons as well as to connect to past family in hopes of gaining a connection with them.

This is a friend of the owner. I know it is not a parking lot because my friend has been living here for the last 21 years. The parking lot is from next-door. Also, Jonathan, Catherine, Matilda, & Lousie has NEVER been living in the Ayers-Allen House.\

Yes, we do haunt this house, but we are very cooperative with the current living residents. They neer feel alone here, because we are here for them. We don't do too many bad things, and when we do, we can easily blame it on the children who live here. You are welcome to trick-or-treat on Halloween, but unless you know our living humans, we won't let you in.

I grow up in Metuchen New Jersey. I know that my house at 52 Durham before it burn down was haunted I lived there. In my sister's bedroom I saw a ghost of small soldier. There was also a house next door to the Ayers Allen house that is now a parking lot. Many times in the winter after a fresh s ow on the ground would be foot steps that the owners didn't going to the house next door. I never knew what happen there in the old house. Very spooky place. In my own house at 52 Durham Avenue you would hear foot steps on the attic stairs at night and no one was in the attic.
