Now operating as a bed and breakfast, this location was settled by Dr. Pitney in 1820. He is often referred to as "the father of Atlantic City," as he was the first who saw the possibilities of Atlantic City as a premier resort city. Pitney was credited for bringing the railroad to Atlantic City. Guests who have stayed at the private cottage have reported hearing an unexplained sound of soft flute-like music.

Nice stay

My wife and I stayed in the Pitney house one night recently. We had a room in the green building next to the big house. The room was wonderful and comfortable. Upon going to bed my wife said she heard voices talking. I didn’t hear anything, but thought it could be the AC producing sounds that could be mistaken for masked voices. I fell asleep but woke up a bit later to find my wife sleeping. I then heard the voices. I thought it sounded like voices on a tv program possibly on a tv program. The sounds were blurry and not understandable. I soon drifted off to sleep and slept deeply. The next day we told the owner of our experience. I said it was probably a guest in the same building playing their tv. She said we were the only guests in that building. She laughed and said she hears that story often. I was a pleasant stay and we didn’t feel threatened in any way. I highly recommend the Pitney House.
