Found in southern New Jersey, Burnt Mill Road is an incomplete path that branches of another street connected to Rt. 30. The road lasts about 2 miles before coming to a dead stop at the Pine Barrens. According to legend, a young boy once chased his ball out into the middle of this road where he was tragically struck by a car, giving rise to the Atco Ghost.

There are several ways believed to summon the child’s spirit. The most widely believed method is to drive onto the road in the middle of the night, park your car, turn off your lights and engine, get out, and walk away from the spot where the ghost appears. If you travel twenty feet and turn around you will see the boy running towards you!

Another method is to drive the length of the road, perform a U-turn, and drive back to a place where this is a crack in the asphalt stretching from one side of the street to the other. Once you’re there you need to stop the car, flash your lights three times, and honk your horn three times. Stop, wait in the darkness for a bit, and you will see a young apparition dribble a basketball down the road in slow motion. It is also said that if you park at the end of Burnt Mill Road and turn off your lights, the Atco Ghost will come to see if yours is the car that killed him.

Supposedly his parents still live in one of the house on that road, and call the cops frequently when there’s cars on the road trying to see the ghost.

Atco Ghost Story

I think this story is BUNK. Did anyone ever mention the name of the little boy who was killed by a DRUNK driver? How did anyone discover the driver was drunk? What is the name of the boy? Certainly he has parents!!! I really think this was fabricated!
